Wes Wendland Legacy
Mr. Wendland graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana with a master’s degree in business administration in 1949 and passed the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant. He and his wife, Joan, came to Grand Junction in 1955, where he joined with Walter A. Dalby to found the CPA firm of Dalby, Wendland & Co., P.C. Even after he officially retired, Wes continued to work throughout the year, preparing tax returns, up until his death. He was quite proud of having served his clients for 52 “tax seasons.” He often commented on how the practice of accounting had changed during his years in the profession. He was also proud that the small firm he and Walter Dalby founded has grown to five offices and 100 employees.
Wes was very active in his community, serving on a number of boards over the years, as well as serving as campaign treasurer for U.S. Representative Mike Strang, State Senators Chet Enstrom and Tilman Bishop, State Representatie Bob Burford, and Mesa County Commissioner, Maxine Albers. Wes also served as president of the Western Colorado Chapter of the Colorado Society of CPAs during his working years.
