Matthew R. Martinez, CPADalby, Wendland & Co., P.C., is pleased to announce Matthew R. Martinez recently attained the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation after passing the Unified Certified Public Accountant Examination. The exam is set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and protects the public interest by helping to ensure that only qualified individuals become licensed as U.S. Certified Public Accountants.

Matt grew up in Grand Junction and attained a bachelor’s degree in public accounting and master’s degree in business administration from Colorado Mesa University. In early 2014, Matt joined Dalby Wendland’s tax team as an intern and worked later as a staff accountant. He transitioned to the audit team in late 2015. As a staff audit accountant, Matt analyzes financial information and prepares financial statement reports and schedules. Matt is a professional member of the American Institute of CPAs and Colorado Society of CPAs. Locally, he is a member of Kiwanis Club and the Young Professionals Network of Mesa County.

To attain his CPA license, Matt passed a four-part exam with 14 hours of testing in auditing and attestation, business environment and concepts, financial accounting and reporting, and regulation. The test is one of four requirements to attain CPA licensure in Colorado – education, ethics discipline, and experience is also needed. To maintain the CPA certification, licensees are required to take annual continuing professional education courses and other opportunities for professional development.

Dalby, Wendland & Co. supports its professionals in attaining CPA and other professional accounting accreditations and certifications. The firm assists with the study and exam fees and time associated with earning these vital credentials.
